A series of algebras generalizing the octonions and Hurwitz-Radon identity
نویسندگان
چکیده
We study non-associative twisted group algebras over (Z2) n with cubic twisting functions. We construct a series of algebras that extend the classical algebra of octonions in the same way as the Clifford algebras extend the algebra of quaternions. We study their properties, give several equivalent definitions and prove their uniqueness within some natural assumptions. We then prove a simplicity criterion. We present two applications of the constructed algebras and the developed technique. The first application is a simple explicit formula for the following famous square identity: (a1 + · · · + a 2 N ) (b 2 1 + · · · + b 2 ρ(N)) = c 2 1 + · · · + c 2 N , where ck are bilinear functions of the ai and bj and where ρ(N) is the Hurwitz-Radon function. The second application is the relation to Moufang loops and, in particular, to the code loops. To illustrate this relation, we provide an explicit coordinate formula for the factor set of the Parker loop.

متن کامل[hal-00864648, v1] Orthogonal designs and a cubic binary function
Orthogonal designs are fundamental mathematical notions used in the construction of space time block codes for wireless transmissions. Designs have two important parameters, the rate and the decoding delay; the main problem of the theory is to construct designs maximizing the rate and minimizing the decoding delay. All known constructions of CODs are inductive or algorithmic. In this paper, we ...
متن کاملOctonionic Reformulation of Vector Analysis
According to celebrated Hurwitz theorem, there exists four division algebras consisting of R (real numbers), C (complex numbers), H (quaternions) and O (octonions). Keeping in view the utility of octonion variable we have tried to extend the three dimensional vector analysis to seven dimensional one. Starting with the scalar and vector product in seven dimensions, we have redefined the gradient...
متن کاملA Generalization of the Doubling Construction for Sums of Squares Identities
The doubling construction is a fast and important way to generate new solutions to the Hurwitz problem on sums of squares identities from any known ones. In this short note, we generalize the doubling construction and obtain from any given admissible triple [r, s, n] a series of new ones [r+ ρ(2m−1), 2s, 2n] for all positive integer m, where ρ is the Hurwitz–Radon function.
متن کاملCircles and Clifford Algebras
We study smooth maps from an open subset of a real projective space to a sphere such that all germs of straight lines go to germs of circles (or points). We give a construction of such maps based on representations of Clifford algebras. It provides a complete purely geometric description of Clifford algebras representations in terms of circles. We also describe a connection between our problem ...
